Tenor Sax / Band Leader

Steven  Beale

Steven L. Beale (“Steve”) is the Founder and Leader of Texas Coast Classic RockHe’s been playing saxophone and scoring musical arrangements professionally for over 50 years. During high school in Rockville, Maryland, Steve was selected to attend a small private concert in downtown Washington, D.C. featuring Chicago (a new band back then) as they performed some incredible songs from their first two albums. That one event helped to change the course of Steve’s musical life forever!

A year later, Steve was fortunate to attend a Jazz and Blues Improvisation Workshop led by Ernie Wilkins, an amazing Tenor Sax player, and the Principal Arranger for the Count Basie Band.  Steve studied music at Frostburg State University (Maryland), where he played Lead Alto Sax in the College Jazz Ensemble, and became of a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia (professional music fraternity).  One of his most memorable musical experiences in college occurred when he was able to attend a rehearsal of the Maynard Ferguson Band to observe their professionalism, as well as receive individual instruction.

Steve’s passion for performing hits from the 60’s and 70’s was developed while playing in a Maryland-based “Chicago-style” band 4-5 nights a week for a year after college.  His musical career was “put on hold” after answering a call from the U.S. military, where he proudly served as a Navy Pilot and Officer for seven (7) years.  After the Navy, Steve flew a corporate jet for a professional golfer, earned a Master’s Degree at the University of Southern Mississippi, and began a career in Medical Diagnostic Imaging (CAT Scan, MRI, etc.) at GE, Philips, and Canon.

During Steve’s time with Fortune 500 corporations, his love for music performance never faltered. He was blessed to play Tenor Sax and write the horn arrangements for a talented corporate band that performed at major venues on a global scale: The House of Blues (Chicago and Cleveland), The Stock Exchange (Chicago), Hard Rock Café (Toronto, Canada), The Space Needle (Seattle), J.W. Marriott (Las Vegas), and at the Brandenburg Gate (Berlin, Germany).

Steve has also performed with many Texas-based bands, including Rick Cavender – San Antonio, Riptide – South Texas Coast, The King Experience (Elvis) – Corpus Christi and South Texas, and the Crossroads Jazz Ensemble – Victoria.  In April, 2023, he was able to perform “side-by-side” with “Blue Lou” Marini, the original sax player with The Blues Brothers.  Steve is excited to be able to score TCCR’s musical arrangements, and thoroughly enjoys playing Tenor and Alto Sax with the professional musicians of Texas Coast Classic Rock!
